Bio
A small town upbringing in Middle Tennessee hasn’t stopped Whitt Laxson from dreaming big. As a child, he put his imagination on display by acting out original shows in his family’s living room. Before he learned to read or write, Whitt was making up elaborate works of fiction that his grandmothers would pen to paper. A love for movies, TV, and all things Disney developed early on and led to a lasting interest in pop culture. Coming from a family of singers, Whitt inherited a vocal talent that allowed him to succeed in the performing arts. From church choir to community theatre, his pre-adolescent and teen years were spent on stage.
As a high school student, Whitt was unexpectedly enrolled in a broadcast journalism class his freshman year. This would result in four years of building a newsmagazine series that helped him win a scholastic award and a college scholarship. During this time, YouTube became an outlet for Whitt to explore his creativity by sharing movie reviews, entertainment commentary, and personal vlogs. For two years, Whitt attended Martin Methodist College in his hometown of Pulaski. While there, he worked at the local radio station, started a wedding videography business, and produced his own series for public cable access. He also joined the student media team at Martin Methodist and helped transform its publication from a web based newspaper to social media content.
After his sophomore year of college, Whitt transferred to Middle Tennessee State University to major in multimedia journalism. At MTSU, he quickly became a producer for the student run TV station, MT10. He produced over a dozen live broadcasts for MT10 News before creating the station’s weekly infotainment morning show. As co-creator and producer for The RISE, Whitt played a key role in selecting on-air talent, approving on-air content, and booking in-studio guests. He was named Outstanding MT10 TV student for the College of Media and Entertainment and received the John Siegenthaler Journalism Award. Whitt earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Communication from MTSU with a major in multimedia journalism and a minor in communication studies.
Since graduation, he's worked in Nashville on the daytime talk show Pickler & Ben and currently works at WTVF NewsChannel 5. As a production assistant at Pickler & Ben, Whitt had the opportunity to work with A-list talent and with industry veterans from The Oprah Winfrey Show, Nashville, and more. At Newschannel 5, he is an an Associate Producer for Nasvhille's number 1 morning newscast. He produces the 7AM hour of the show on NewsChannel 5 Plus. His achievements are no surprise to those who know him and recognize his passion for telling stories and entertaining others. Whitt calls himself an entertainer with journalistic standards.
